Why are GM foods good?
There are lots of positives for GMO foods, some of them being: some fruits can grow in cold environment such as tomatoes, more food in stores all year round and prices for fruits and vegetables will drop due to more production of the food. New traits that are added into some fruits and vegetables are very positive, for example broccoli and tomatoes are bursting with cancer fighting chemicals, wheat, soy and peanuts are now free of allergens. Della Penna a biochemist at the Michigan State University believes GM foods are the key to the next wave of advances in agriculture and health.
This is not the only reason why GM foods are good, with the population booming it is vital to have access to food. The population is set to hit 9 billion by 2050, and the way the human population consumes food at the moment it will simply not be enough to feed 9 billion people. Natural growth of crops is nowhere near enough production to feed so many people, but with the use of GMO's it will introduce new traits to the fruits and vegetables making them grow more efficient. This means more production of fruits and vegetables which results in more food around the world.
3rd well countries are in dire need of food, and in locations such as Africa, Asia and South America it is very hard for crops to grow, due to either harsh environments, or not enough money. But with GMO foods it means seeds can be altered to grow in conditions they were never able to before, and the demand for food in these countries will drop.
